BOOK CLUB RESOURCE: An inexpensive gem full of activities

Updated: Dec 6, 2019

With a string of holidays around the corner, educators and parents have yet another opportunity to motivate and engage students. There are plenty of holiday-related activities; most of us have printed out worksheets and bought themed stationery. Here is another suggestion. What is the difference? The amount of student engagement in these creative projects.

The activity book Alternatives to Worksheets: Motivational Reading and Writing Activities Across the Curriculum is an inexpensive gem. Students get to choose from the book's many simple projects and explain their reasoning for the choice and how it connects to a lesson/concept. Students can also monitor themselves as they complete the steps individually or in a group, which lends itself to many, many, many opportunities to make learning meaningful.
